On taking risks that others can’t: John McCarthy, Jenny Gill, James Palmer and Jamie Tuuta in conversation

In this conversation, panellists reflect on the opportunity for philanthropy to be the venture capital of the social sector; an enabler and “critical friend” - helping shape and strengthen early-stage ideas, and supporting organisations to move from concept to delivery.

They discuss the importance of humility and accountability in funding relationships, the need to avoid unintended harm and reduce the burden placed on community organisations. Ultimately, the panel makes the case for a more connected, courageous form of giving: one that focuses less on individual projects and more on creating the conditions in which stronger systems can emerge.
